Fountain Hills has a character unique from other communities in the Phoenix Valley. Its northeast location at the southern end of the McDowell Mountains gives residents outstanding views combined with a community devoted to the arts, golf, the night sky and its famous fountain. Its unique pedigree, vibe and location on the metropolitan area’s periphery give residents a sense of peace while also being close to shopping and recreation that entices people to Arizona.
Fountain Hills slopes gently toward the west, starting with an elevation of 1,520 feet at the famous fountain and rising to 3,190 feet on a spur of the McDowell Mountains. This elevation makes Fountain Hills slightly cooler than Phoenix in the summer. It also plays a part in being named an International Dark Sky Community. Natural features like the McDowell Mountain Regional Park and two adjacent native American nations shield the city from light pollution. The Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association has worked with the town council and staff to change outdoor lighting and sign ordinances to ensure that night lighting is low impact.
Escape From Urban Sprawl
With a population of just under 24,000 and only 20 square miles in its entirety, Fountain Hills is the ideal place to escape from the urban sprawl of the Phoenix Valley. Central Scottsdale and the rest of the Valley are easily accessed via the Loop 202 Freeway and the Beeline Highway. The community offers carefree condominiums and townhomes, many of which are within walking distance of Fountain Park, starting at around $300,000, making them ideal as second homes for snowbirds. However, buyers will find plenty of developments that are perfect starter homes or communities for growing families, along with multi-million-dollar luxury executive homes. Popular neighborhoods include Eagle Mountain, Fire Rock Country Club, Eagle Ridge, Sun Ridge Canyon and Crestview.
A Golfer’s Paradise
Golfers will find no better place to live in the Valley than Fountain Hills. Play a different course every day of the week, all just minutes from your door. Within Fountain Hills’ borders, you’ll find Fire Rock Country Club, plus the public courses at Desert Canyon Golf Club, Fountain Hills Golf Course, Eagle Mountain Golf Club, and Sun Ridge Canyon Golf Club. Outside Fountain Hills are the two courses at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Fort McDowell and Verde River Golf & Social Club in Rio Verde.
Fun Town Center
Few town centers can boast more fun things to do. Just south of the town center is Fountain Hills Park, where you can see the famous fountain, play disc golf, picnic, or walk around the lake. Downtown has a mixture of grocery, hardware stores, drug stores, quirky boutiques, art galleries, a public art walk, and a community center. You can’t beat the food, either. Try local hot spots like:
- Oka Sushi
- Alexander’s Greek Kitchen
- Arrivederci Cucina Italiana
- Zab Thai Food Kitchen
- Veeta’s Vegan
Local Schools
The Fountain Hills Unified School District services town residents, with students attending McDowell Mountain Elementary School, Fountain Hills Middle School, and Fountain Hills High School.
