This has been one of Scottsdale’s most acclaimed complexes since it opened in the mid-1990s with two challenging, well-conditioned courses, delightful dining and an obsession with customer service. Raptor, designed by Tom Fazio, generally is regarded as the better of the two courses and has hosted numerous events sanctioned by the PGA Tour. It is a risk-reward layout with generous fairways but places a premium on approach shots with deep, strategic bunkers and undulating greens. Talon, created by U.S. Open and PGA champion David Graham and then-partner Gary Panks, stresses positioning off the tee and features large greens, but they are multitiered, which effectively reduces their size. Grayhawk has several excellent dining options, including Phil’s Grill (named after Phil Mickelson), and its food choices at the turn might be the best in the state. Even better, on-course attendants place your order, so everything is fresh, made to your liking and ready to pick up from your cart on your way to the 10th tee.
