Unique Arizona Holiday Traditions for Your New Home

Unique Arizona Holiday Traditions for Your New Home

Unique Arizona Holiday Traditions for Your New Home

The holidays are a wonderful time to visit Arizona and view homes for sale. Don’t miss these unique Arizona holiday traditions for your new home.

Each region of the U.S. has special winter festivities. If you’re planning to relocate to the Phoenix area, don’t miss some of these unique Arizona holiday traditions for your new home. The holidays are a great time to visit and see what your new community has to offer at this special time of year.

Our climate won’t necessarily provide a Currier and Ives postcard aesthetic—unless you’re high in the Arizona hills, where snow is possible! But our desert traditions and multicultural communities have an abundance of festive events for residents to enjoy during the holiday season.

Luminaria

The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix glows with thousands of luminaria and holly along curving walks throughout the garden. Buy tickets in advance. The event runs through the end of December.

Camelback Santa

Sometime in the last decade, some hikers went up the Camelback Mountain trail and set up a Christmas tree at the summit. Then a volunteer, John Cressey, became “Camelback Santa,” distributing candy canes to anyone who took the trail to the top to get a photo with him.

The hikers and volunteers have reached an agreement with the park service to keep the area clean and litter-free and are now using birdseed ornaments. They remove the tree each night and bring it back the next day to minimize environmental impact.

Chandler Tumbleweed Tree

Arizonans have been known to craft snowmen out of tumbleweeds. The city of Chandler take holiday tumbleweeds to the next level with a Christmas tree made out of tumbleweed. They spray the tree with fire retardant and paint and string colorful lights on it in a ceremony that’s back in 2022 after a temporary pandemic shutdown.

Polar Express Grand Canyon Train

The whole family will love the 90-minute train ride that leads from Williams, AZ to the Grand Canyon. The train ride is based on the children’s classic holiday book, “The Polar Express,” and delivers passengers to Santa and his reindeer at the “North Pole.”

Glendale Glitters

In the nearby Phoenix suburb of Glendale, enjoy brilliant lights, shopping, and live performances at the annual “Glendale Glitters” event. Check the schedule for movies, too!

Zoolights

The Phoenix Zoo is brilliant with lights and music during the holiday season. Tickets include a visit to the “Dinosaurs in the Desert” exhibit.

Creative Cacti

Don’t be surprised by the occasional Santa hat atop Arizona’s signature Saguaro cactuses! The famous I-17 Christmas “tree” (actually a juniper bush) fell victim to fire, ending a long-standing Arizona holiday tradition. But Arizonans find many substitutes for trees to decorate, from shrubs to palm trees.

Professional tree services are available to consult with Phoenix residents about maintaining the health of native trees through the holiday season. They can determine whether a tree can bear decorations or is better left in its natural state.

Arizona is ready to welcome you for a holiday visit or a permanent stay in your new Phoenix area home!

Best Communities in Arizona to Raise a Family

Best Communities in Arizona to Raise a Family

Best Communities in Arizona to Raise a Family

Any family would be happy to call several cities in Arizona home. Arizona’s top cities, towns, and villages exhibit a family-friendly appeal thanks to safety, excellent schools, great amenities, clean streets, and friendly neighbors. But nothing is flawless. Every charming city has an equal counterpart that you should avoid. As a result, check out our list of the best communities in Arizona for families if you want to raise your family in an area with many benefits and few drawbacks.

Scottsdale

Head to Scottsdale to raise a family while having a blast doing it. Scottsdale has a relatively temperate climate, even in the height of summer, in contrast to much of the rest of the state. In addition, it still has a lot to offer even without its moderate climate. For instance, it abounds with top-notch public schools, good wages, a low crime rate, and fantastic career prospects, particularly in the tech sector. Many pubs, clubs, and restaurants are available for folks who want to juggle parenthood and their active social life. Moreover, it’s simple to understand why Scottsdale is such a popular travel destination considering its breathtaking riverfront, lovely parks, and many golf courses.

Paradise Valley

Another one of the best communities in Arizona to raise a family is the lovely Paradise Valley. Paradise Valley, in many ways, lives up to its glorious name, and you will quickly understand why people choose to live here. It is a well-kept and wealthy city that borders the Phoenix metro region. Also, Paradise Valley has under 15,000 inhabitants, but it has expanded by about 15% over the past ten years. The roadways and landscaping are immaculate, and it is Arizona’s most prosperous municipality. In addition, there are a lot of golf courses, hiking trails, public parks, and indoor attractions in Paradise Valley for family fun. However, most families travel to Phoenix or one of its suburbs for more diversity.

Marana

There are several excellent reasons why Marana’s population has continuously grown in recent years. The town, northwest of Tucson, has a lot to offer families, including a relatively low crime rate and nearly 20 well-regarded schools. If the abundance of amenities, booming employment opportunities, and miles of the breathtaking landscape seem like the type of area you’d like to raise a family in, you know where to go.

Gilbert

More than 272,000 people now call Gilbert home, making it the biggest town in the country and one of the fastest-growing communities. Just southeast of Phoenix, Gilbert spans 72.6 square miles and has shifted from an agricultural area to a vibrant and economically diversified suburban community. Gilbert is considered the most prosperous city in the country, one of the safest, and one of the best communities in Arizona to raise a family. Destination parks, eateries, entertainment, and business possibilities abound in Gilbert, enhancing the quality of life for locals and tourists alike.

Therefore, if you would like to move to Gilbert, we would understand your reasons. However, ensure you reach out to an expert team of movers to help relocate you here, especially if you have to make an interstate move. Interstate movers can make your relocation fast and carefree so you can enjoy your new home as soon as possible.

Phoenix

We must mention Phoenix discussing Arizona, right? Phoenix is a beautiful city with many benefits, as its 1.6 million citizens can confirm. Families will like many aspects of the city, including the top-notch amenities, the strong employment market, the variety of housing alternatives, and the reputable schools. There are several outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy, including countless chances for hiking, mountain biking, and camping. Just be aware that you might want to avoid it if you don’t like the heat. Phoenix, like a large portion of Arizona, is extremely hot.

Chandler

Like many Arizona communities, Chandler is home to more than 261,000 people and still rising. Furthermore, 25% of the population is represented by children, one of the state’s highest proportions. The city has top-notch schools, which is excellent news for these lucky youngsters. In reality, BASIS Chandler,  one of the top high schools in the nation, is located in Chandler. Furthermore, the Chandler Regional Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the country with a recognized maternity center, is another community highlight.

At the same time, the Crayola Experience, an amusement park where kids and their parents can express themselves creatively, is one of the most incredible activities to do with kids in Chandler. Also, make sure to visit one of the best places in Chandler, the Arizona Railway Museum, or try Escape Chandler, one of the top five Western US escape rooms.

Sedona

Sedona, whose slogan is “The Most Beautiful Place on Earth,” may be the most attractive city on our list. It is situated in the center of the desert, surrounded by towering red sandstone formations and an endless expanse of mountains, canyons, and woods. More than 80 art galleries in the city exhibit great art paintings, modern jewelry, exquisite wood carvings, and much more. This charming and artsy town also has a great selection of excellent little restaurants, pubs, and cafés that line the streets, making it a great option as one of the best towns to live in in Arizona.

Prescott

Nearly 40,000 people live in this little community, isolated in the desert and located approximately 1.5 hours north of Phoenix. Nevertheless, we consider it among the most remarkable places in Arizona to live. Numerous lakes and fantastic hiking routes are available, and it is near a lot of natural beauty. Additionally, the stunning Prescott National Forest is very near to the city. Also, Prescott has a charming downtown area that will make you feel like you are in the Old West, which kids will absolutely love.

In conclusion

As you can see, Arizona has a lot of great cities and towns for families with children. So read our list carefully and choose your favorite one out of the best communities in Arizona to raise a family. Arizona will offer anything you need, whether you want a calm town or a vibrant city.

How to Prepare to Purchase Your First Home in the New Year

How to Prepare to Purchase Your First Home in the New Year

How to Prepare to Purchase Your First Home in the New Year

As 2021 gets closer, we’re all starting to think about new plans and goals to set for ourselves. A new year can bring with it new possibilities. The type of goal you set for yourself will most likely depend on where you feel you are at in this stage of life. Maybe it’s time to get back into your workout routine, or maybe you feel like 2021 is the year you find your dream career. For many people, it will mark the beginning of their plan toward home ownership. Home buying can be a long process and may include many steps. Beginning this process at the start of a new year gives you plenty of time to plan, organize, and execute on this major life milestone.

Financially Prepare

Oftentimes, it’s easy to only think about the actual home hunt part of the process, which on average is said to take about 10 weeks. But, there are a few important steps before you begin your hunt which can actually help you cut down on that two-and-a-half-month timeline. The first is to plan out your finances.

To start your financial planning, take a look at the area where you want to buy a home. What is the average home price like? Do the houses usually go for above asking price? This will help you gauge how much you will have to spend to get the house you desire. Based on this information, you can then take a closer look at your bank accounts to see where you stand and if you’re ready to buy now or if you need a little more time to save. If you aren’t comfortable with where you currently sit financially and think you need more time, create a budget that will help you put away extra money each month that will go toward your down payment. Another helpful tip is to have money automatically taken out of your paycheck each pay period that goes directly to a savings account. This way you won’t even have to think about it or have the opportunity to spend that money on something else. You may also want to add more into your savings and consider over preparing, so if you get into a bidding war on your dream home you have extra funds to fall back on.

You may realize you need more help planning for this purchase than you expected. In that case, you can always consider working with a financial planner, who can help you answer questions such as how much home should you buy, rather than how much home can you buy.

Plan Ahead

When possible, try to get ahead of the game. Essentially this means take care of anything you can in advance that may hold you back later down the line. This can help during each step of the process such as finding a realtor, talking to a bank, and when making the offer.

One thing that can help you prepare early on and stand out in an oversaturated seller’s market is to look into a mortgage and get preapproved before making an offer on a home. This step will help determine how much you can afford and may also point out any discrepancies or problems that could keep you from getting approved. If you know ahead of time, you can begin working to fix these issues before moving on in the process.

On the other hand, if you’re in a good financial place, mortgage pre approval will help move the process along quicker when you do eventually find a house. Not every home buyer gets preapproved before finding a home, which can slow the process down and may add unwanted contingencies. If you make an offer and have been pre approved beforehand, it will help you stand out amongst the rest and make your offer more attractive to the seller.

Begin the House Hunt

Once you have all your finances in order and have been preapproved and know exactly what you can afford, it’s time to find a realtor and begin the hunt!

To get yourself prepared for speaking with a realtor, you should have in mind exactly what you’re looking for. The better idea you have, the better they will be at finding exactly what you want. You may ask yourself questions like:

  •  What neighborhoods or school districts do I like?
  • How many bedrooms do I need?
  • How big of a backyard would I like?
  • Do I need a basement?
  • Am I okay with an HOA fee?

Questions like these will help your realtor narrow down a list of homes for you and ensure both parties are in sync when it comes to what you’re looking for. Take time to talk with your realtor and tell them about yourself. This is another great way for them to understand what you want, and what your lifestyle is like. With this knowledge, they’re able to bring you a list of homes that all have potential, rather than a long list of no’s.

The Final Steps

It may take some time, but eventually you will find a space that is perfectly suited for you or a home you believe you can work on and make your own. Once you’ve made an offer and it has been accepted, there are a few other hurdles you need to cross before the home is officially yours.

As the buyer you have a few responsibilities when it comes to the closing of your new home. You’ll need to plan for closing costs by opening an escrow account, hire a lawyer who can help you with the final paperwork, and schedule a home inspection. Once the home inspection has been completed, and if you haven’t agreed to buying the home “as is”, you may even need to renegotiate the price of the home. An inspector may find things that need to be addressed by the seller before you can move in.

Once you’ve agreed upon the price again, you then need to get the title of the home and secure title and homeowners insurance. Title insurance ensures you have ownership rights to the property and no one else can try to step in or take over. On the other hand, homeowners insurance will help you protect your home in case of damage as well as legal and liability responsibilities. With both of these forms of insurance, you will even further reaffirm you own the property and can protect and care for it as best as possible for years to come.

All of these “little” things may feel like a lot, but it’s important you cover all your bases before finalizing the sale. Each step ensures you are getting the home in the best shape possible, and for the best deal. Finally, when all of these steps are taken care of, it’s time to close and sign on the dotted line. After all of the planning and preparation, you are now able to call yourself a homeowner. Although it’s a stressful process, it can also be one of the most rewarding. At the end of the day, don’t forget to take time to enjoy and celebrate this big milestone you’ve been planning for all year long.

5 Reasons to Live in Scottsdale

5 Reasons to Live in Scottsdale

5 Reasons to Live in Scottsdale

If your considering an Arizona city to call home, you may be looking at Scottsdale. Scottsdale is one of the most celebrated communities in Arizona, indeed in the Southwest United States. There are five key reasons to live in Scottsdale.

A Family Friendly Community

A primary reasons why Scottsdale is a great place to call home is because it is a truly family friendly community. Scottsdale does have something of a reputation as being a tourists paradise and a great retirement community. These do represent fair appraisals of the city; however, these affirmations only tell part of the story.

Scottsdale is proving itself as a wonderful place for people to raise families. The school districts serving the community are consistently regarded as among the best in Arizona. When it comes to education, Scottsdale is also in close proximity to well-regarded Arizona State University.

Scottsdale is also considered a relatively safe community when it comes to crime. Safe streets obviously are important when it comes to people from all walks of life, including families with growing children.

Scottsdale is home to an array of family-friendly activities, including museums, recreational opportunities, arts, and entertainment. Simply, there is a great deal for families to do in Scottsdale.

Vibrant Downtown Scene

Scottsdale’s magnificent downtown has become a true Arizona gem in recent times. Downtown Scottsdale was long known for its great nightlife. This includes great dining and entertainment opportunities.

In more recent times, downtown Scottsdale has enjoyed major development when it comes to condos and urban housing options. Downtown Scottsdale has become a prime example of an effective blend of live, work, and play.

Downtown Scottsdale is now considered one of the top five arts markets in all of the United States. Downtown Scottsdale is home to over 70 brilliant art galleries.

Amazing Dining Options

The entertainment scene in Scottsdale has already been mentioned generally. The tremendous dining options in the city warrant being noted on their own. Scottsdale’s downtown is the center point of almost 800 restaurants in the city. Although there is not specific research to absolutely confirm this, a fair argument can me made that Scottsdale has more restaurants per square mile than any other community — anywhere.

In recent years, Scottsdale has attracted some of the most acclaimed chefs in the nation. Indeed, many of the iconic chefs in New York and Los Angeles have opened their own eateries in Scottsdale.

When it comes to dining, there is something for everyone. This includes everything from family restaurants to romantic destinations to fine dining establishments to a rapidly expanding micro-brewery scene, venue which oftentimes also maintain delectable dining options.

Multiple Sports and Recreation

On the list of reasons to live in Scottsdale is the array of sports and recreational opportunities in the community. Chief among the sports and recreational opportunities in Scottsdale is golf. Some of the nation’s premier golf courses are located in and around Scottsdale, including in Paradise Valley.

In addition to golf opportunities, there are other popular recreational options including hiking and camping in nearby parks and open spaces. Many of these activities are considered highly family friendly.

Strong Business and Employment Opportunities

Scottsdale has been enjoying a strong economy. The job scene in Scottsdale is strong. In addition, Scottsdale has garnered a reputation as being a tremendous place for entrepreneurs. Scottsdale has become a national center where innovative new business ventures are launching with consistent regularity.

Affordable Housing Options

The housing market in Scottsdale includes a wide range of different types of properties. This includes some truly stunning high-end residences. It also includes affordable housing options in nice neighborhoods that are well-suited to families with growing children as well as to individuals in their Golden Years.

Some of the primary reasons why Scottsdale is an attractive place to live have been highlighted here. The reality is that there are many more reasons why Scottsdale has become and is very likely to remain one of the most livable communities in the United States.

Why Live in Scottsdale

Why live in Scottsdale

Why Live in Scottsdale

With a population of about 260,000, Scottsdale is a vibrant component of the greater Phoenix metroplex. Incorporated in 1951 with 2,000 residents, Scottsdale has grown to become a city defined by its quality of life. Indeed, Scottsdale as the distinction of being one of the most livable cities in the United States, a recognition first bestowed on the community in 1993.

The city offers a wide range of residential options that include an array of different types of single family homes, condos, townhomes, and apartments. The price range of single family residents runs from below $200,000 upwards to $30 million.

Amenities in Scottsdale

Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, Scottsdale is an idyllic community with a great deal to offer. As is presented in greater detail, people are drawn to Scottsdale as residents and visitors for its recreational opportunities as well as all the community has to offer in the way of entertainment and dining, culture and history, and other activities. Scottsdale is a vibrant commercial hub with a booming business sector. Attractive neighborhoods and housing communities make up the city, offering different residential options for people from all walks of life.

Schools Serving Scottsdale

Most Scottsdale students are served by the Scottsdale Unified School District. Residents in North Scottsdale attend schools in the Paradise Valley School Districts. Both districts garner high marks for outstanding schools.

In addition, Scottsdale is home to a number of institutions of higher learning. These include:

  • University of Phoenix
  • Scottsdale Community College

Dining, Shopping, and Entertainment in Scottsdale

Scottsdale is a dynamic center for dining, shopping, and entertainment of all types. From the city center to Old Town to a myriad of other destinations in between, Scottsdale features some of the most varied dining options in the world. From fine dining establishments to unique bistros, when it comes to eateries, the cliché of “something for everyone” really does have meaning.

Cultural and Recreational Opportunities

Cultural activities and venues abound in Scottsdale. Scottsdale is considered at the top of the list of communities in the country with a burgeoning assortment of art galleries and museums of different types. These include museums and other venues the celebrate the rich history of the area. Many of the cultural venues in Scottsdale maintain special programming for children and families.

Recreational opportunities are plentiful in Scottsdale. The city has some of the finest golf courses in Arizona. In addition, biking and hiking trails crisscross the community and can be found in the resplendent desert areas that encompass the city.
