McCormick Ranch: Scottsdale’s First Planned Community
This charming yet affluent area of central Scottsdale has a village-like atmosphere and a wealth of shopping, eating, and drinking options. McCormick Ranch is Scottsdale’s oldest planned community, constructed on the land owned by Fowler and Anne McCormick. After Anne McCormick’s death in 1970, the ranch land was sold to various interests, leading to the development of the McCormick Ranch Golf Club and its surrounding residential communities. Today, this 3,100-acre planned development is home to over 14,000 residents.
Single-Family and Carefree Multiple Living Options
With its stellar location, lying between Indian Bend Road on the south and Shea Boulevard on the north, the town of Paradise Valley on the west, and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to the east, it’s no wonder that McCormick Ranch was the first area to see major development in Scottsdale. It’s made up of primarily spacious single-family homes, with some luxury estates and carefree condos and townhomes.
Buyers will find a mixture of prices and styles, including Spanish, territorial, and classic ranches, among others. The Sands remains one of McCormick Ranch’s most popular neighborhoods. Constructed over ten years beginning in 1973, the Sands has more than 300 single-family homes, 25 patio homes, and 132 townhouses. Sandpiper is another popular community. This large, gated townhome neighborhood offers luxury condos with a community pool and spa, two-car garages, and proximity to the McCormick Ranch Golf Course.
Lakes, Mountain Views, and More at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
McCormick Ranch Golf Club, the centerpiece of the community, is an oasis in the desert. Set amid several artificial lakes, it features two courses, the Palm Course and the Pine Course, with lush landscaping alternating with desert views. The golf club offers a variety of membership levels, making it one of the most accessible facilities of its type in Scottsdale. Dining and banquet facilities are also available.
Myriad Outdoor Recreational Opportunities
The manmade lakes within the golf course extend to other parks in McCormick Ranch, totaling 130 acres of fishing, boating, and other outdoor recreational opportunities. Residents can enjoy tennis and pickleball facilities at Comanche Park, plus playgrounds, basketball facilities, and more at Shoshone and Zuni Park. Mountain View Park, in the northern area of McCormick Ranch, features a community center plus multiple sports courts. You’ll also find 25 miles of biking and walking paths, many of which connect to the Indian Wash Greenbelt.
